Message from the President

As the first quarter of 2011 draws to a close, I enthusiastically report that the LHAS members and staff have been hard at work. The results of our efforts are noteworthy and I applaud our entire LHAS team which is diverse, hardworking, professional and above all, passionate about our mission to serve. We strive to remember our clear purpose, our deep sense of how we make a difference, and our sense of belonging-realizing that everyone's contributions count.

Our standard programs are thriving and this year we have expanded our focus to include youth in our communities. I am inspired by C. Everrett Koops words, "Life affords no greater responsibility, no greater privilege, than the raising of the next generation". To that end, LHAS is making significant contributions to children in our neighborhoods. Urban Impact Foundation has proven to be a fantastic partner and one example of our commitment. In addition to supporting the Urban Rocks concert, we are bringing health and wellness programs to hundreds of young people in the North Side of Pittsburgh. Additionally, we are committed to our Teen Abuse Program that will be available to youth in need. Finally, I mention our August 27th LHAS Gala to support the LHAS Patient Support Fund for Pediatric Plastic Surgery at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC.

I am humbled to be in a leadership position at LHAS that has been a community partner for over 113 years. On behalf of the members and the staff of LHAS, I extend our sincere gratitude to all that support us and our mission to help those most in need. The members of this remarkable organization have logged in several million volunteer hours and have raised well over 13.5 million dollars. I encourage non-members to learn more about LHAS and join this prolific organization.
