The UPMC Presbyterian Committee of Magnet Champions sponsored a Mardi Gras Magnet Fair on Monday, February. 22, 2010 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Ladies Hospital Aid Society (LHAS) hosted a table. The fair began in the lobby of the Starzl Biomedical Science Tower and extended to nearby rooms. Various departments in the hospital had interactive displays that showcased their specialties through education and sharing.

Entries from the hospital wide writing contest “Celebrating the Art of Caring” were on display. Sue Svec, MICU, and Angela Panos, CTICU, both won one month of free parking at UPMC Presbyterian. Unit 10 South, Pain Management won the People’s Choice Award, and Erin Flanagan, 9G- UPMC won First Place for Door Prize of a UPMC Tote Bag.

Continuing education opportunities for nurses were available throughout the day that featured the following:

  • 8 to 9 a.m. - Monitor Alarm Fatigue (Journal Club by Erin Flanagan)

  • 1 to 2 p.m. - Preventing Contrast Medium Induced Nephropathy (Journal Club by Karen Irwin)
  • 2 to 3 p.m. - Integrating Evidence‐Based Guidelines for Patient/Family Communications in the ICU (Oral Presentation by Michele Sebelia, Anita Lovell, Barbara Usher)
