Job Summary

This is a part-time position for the Ladies Hospital Aid Society (LHAS) located at the Montefiore Hospital Gift Shop. This position will work varied days and hours as needed including weekends. Sales Associates in the LHAS Gift Shop accept a responsibility to support the service and fundraising goals of the shop by providing retail and informational services to patients, visitors and staff. Sales Associate responsibilities include, but are not limited to, assist in selling, maintaining store stock and creative merchandising, product receiving and pricing, operating lottery machine accurately and details associated with sales, general upkeep of the Shop and performs all duties as required to ensure the daily operations are handled in an efficient and effective manner. Willingness to work weekends is required. A friendly, business-like attitude is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Greets each customer promptly with eye contact, a smile and verbal greeting expressing courtesy and hospitality.
  • Answers and responds to phone calls in gracious manner recording accurate information if required.
  • Performs in accordance with System-wide competencies/behaviors.
  • Maintains thorough knowledge of merchandise, what it is, how it works, and where it is from, i.e., origin.
  • Assists customers with gift/flower suggestions, and uses cross selling techniques.
  • Sales Associate is expected to talk to customers about products in order to sell.
  • Maintains shop (i.e. dusting, cleaning, rubbish removal) to ensure a safe and aesthetic environment.
  • Stocks candy, magazines and merchandise on daily basis as necessary.
  • Informs Manager when stock items or supplies are low in need of reordering.
  • Receives incoming merchandise, checks receiving papers, unpacks and assists with pricing as directed.
  • Inputs product data into computer as needed.
  • Counts merchandise for spot inventory checks and for year end physical inventory.
  • Operates the POS and accurately and efficiently, entering customer information.
  • Counts change bank, reconciles receipts at end of day, and cash deposit as needed.
  • Prepares neat, accurate, and complete records and reports as needed.
  • Opens and closes shop as needed.
  • Maintains an awareness of shoplifting potential.
  • Works weekends, evenings or holidays as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
